Located in Mediterranean Middle East and southwestern Asia, Turkey (Turkiye) is a country that spans these two continents. The Turkish Straits (Bosphorus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles) divides Europe from Asia. That portion of Turkey to the west of the Bosphorus is geographically part of Europe while the rest of Turkey is part of West Asia (the Middle East).
Turkey has a very diverse culture derived from various elements of the Ottoman Empire, European, and the Islamic traditions. As Turkey successfully transformed from a religion-driven former Ottoman Empire into a modern nation-state with a very strong separation of state and religion, the increase in the methods of artistic expression followed.

A country of sun and history, Turkey is located where the three continents making up the old world, Asia, Africa and Europe are closest to each other and straddle the point where Europe and Asia meet.
Turkey is surrounded on three sides by the sea: The Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara on the West Coast, the Eastern Mediterranean Sea in the south and the Black Sea in the north. There is only one small physical connection to Europe: the two impressive bridges across the Bosphorus, connecting european and asian parts of Istanbul.
Sea side resorts like Antalya, Bodrum or Kusadasi are very popular with tourists from Europe.
Anadolu, the anatolian high central plateau is where turkish culture is rooted. The soul of the country is to be found in the green pastures of the hinterland, where shephards still move their herds with the seasons. Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is located centrally in Anatolia.
Istanbul is Turkey's prime attraction, with beautiful mosques and palaces, Byzantine churches and Roman temples. Istanbul's claim to the title of Eternal city is as justified as Rome's
